Chi (sometimes ji) or tsuchi, meaning Earth represents the hard, solid objects of the world. The most basic example of chi is in a stone. Stones are highly resistant to movement or change, as is anything heavily influenced by chi. In people, the bones, muscles and tissues are represented by chi. Emotionally, chi is predominantly associated with stubbornness, stability, physicality, and gravity. In the mind, it is confidence; and emotionally it is a desire to have things remain as they are; a resistance to change. When under the influence of this chi mode or "mood", we are aware of our own physicality and sureness of action. (Note: This is a separate from the energy concept pronounced in Chinese as ch'i and in Japanese as ki.

A Little About KMA           Go Pirates

In 1982 Mr. Kimery was awarded, State Kumite (fighting) champion by the Mississippi State Karate Association. Other accomplishments include a gold medal which he received in

1984 as he took first place in forms during the Central United States College Meet held at Mississippi State University where as many as six different states were competing. In 1986 he was awarded his second gold medal in forms competition.

Since that time, Mr. Kimery’s main focus has been on teaching Martial Arts and fitness programs. In 1990 he formed Youth Activity Services. Youth Activity Services grew to become one of the nations largest satellite teaching programs reaching more than 30 locations. It was instrumental in spreading Martial Arts and other sport and fitness programs to public and privately owned schools, as well as teaching clinics to local groups, businesses, and church organizations.

In 1991 Kimery Martial Arts introduced Youth Summer Karate Camps to Mississippi. Which today remains one of the most successful and well attended in the United States. In 2002 Kimery Martial Arts became the first in the state to pioneer an After School Karate Program. And it as well remains one of the longest running and most successful in the nation.

Kimery Martial Arts was founded on the ideals of teaching the importance of education and good moral and social behavior. One philosophy he has is that, knowledge is wasted unless taught. Mr. Kimery feels that Martial Arts are a living art, constantly changing as we change. New systems are developed every day. As a result of this belief, Mr. Kimery teaches a variety and ever changing system along with traditional. No one style is either better or less than another. A Martial Art is only as good as its practitioner. Such is how his own style of self-defense was created. Taking nearly ten years to develop, MAK CHEE DO, (art of block and strike), is one of very few systems that teaches strictly self-defense by way of simplicity of the mind and body by removing traditional thoughts and movements.

Kimery Martial Arts hosts a wide variety of programs.
